When I decided to write this morning’s message, I thought I would go to my ever faithful source to find some material to help me – the internet. Everyone seemed to be on a political band wagon today – politics rose it’s ugly head – comparing Marx and Obama to the early Pilgrims way of life in the first years, and other comments of like nature – but in every article I did find that there was an underlying desire – a strong need for religious freedom was the basis for the pilgrimage – which is a well known fact -but that desire and need was fulfilled by the freedom the new country afforded them and the Thanksgiving was to thank the Powers That Be for the chance to live a free and plentiful life.
This same desire to give thanks for the plenty we all share is offered by most of us here in America, but it is sometimes hidden away and not publicly expressed. Why are we reluctant to let our friends, family and neighbors know that we believe there is a Higher Being that guides us through our lives and that we are grateful for all that we are given through this Power? Giving thanks publicly is a way of showing not only those around us that we appreciate all that we have, but it is also a way of letting our inner self that we have within us the Power to accept or change our lives – depending on what we want from life.
When I say allowing our belief in a Higher Being to be known publicly, I don’t mean to get on a soap box or a pulpit and shout it out at the top of our lungs, but to verbally give thanks at the table on Thanksgiving day, if on no other day. We have so much to be thankful for – most of which we take for granted. We have started a tradition in our home on Thanksgiving Day – each one at the table relates to the others what they are most thankful for – and after we have gone around the table, we all join hands and give thanks for the wonderful meal we have before us and for our family and friends that we can share our bounty with.
Today I give thanks to the ability to be able to share with you some of the things we hold dear and hope that your Thanksgiving Day will be special and full of love and gratitude for your bounty.

These are beautiful thoughts. Thank you for sharing them.
I believe in expressing my thanks through action; i.e. appreciating the gifts the universe gives me whether it be a penny on the sidewalk or an awesome sunrise. However; I agree that it is important to express our thanks publicly, and the added blessing is that in so doing we may also inspire others to see what they may otherwise have missed.

If we really think about it we do have so much to be grateful for. The best way to see this is to make a list and review it.
