I have referred to “your perfect body” weight many times in this blog – actually, I guess it appears each time the blog appears, since it is the title of my blog. But do you know what your perfect body weight is? That is one of the most important questions you will ask yourself as you determine what your next step will be in reducing your weight, yet another time. Is it possible that you have sought an unrealistic goal weight for your size, age and lifestyle? What do you use as your guideline for your “perfect body weight”.
Do you listen to your spouse or your friends and decide that you will tailor your body to fit their ideas of a perfect body? Or, perhaps you find a celebrity or even a friend, whose body you really like and you try to reach the same weight as him or her. Perhaps you think you want to reach the weight you had when your were a teenager, or in your early twenties, before children, before an entirely different lifestyles than the one you have now occurred. That may or may not be realistic.
Think about this – your body is unique to you – therefore, your ideal weight, because it involves factors that are both objective from the standpoint of health risks, and subjective from a standpoint of personal satisfaction with your appearance, is much more than just a number on a scale. It is more like a state of being. There are some contributing factors that can be considered when determining what your “Perfect Body Weight” is.
Does your current weight limit your from living the life you want to live?
Is your weight causing health problems?
Can you love your body as it is now and not constantly compare it to others whom you think have more attractive bodies?
Does your body at its current weight make you self-conscious and uncomfortable?
All of these can be determining factors in what your perfect body can be. I, for one, think that “your perfect body weight” should be WHATEVER YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH. At one time I thought I wanted to have the body weight I had when I was in high school – I am 5′7″ tall and weighed 125 lbs. That’s probably o.k. if I wanted to be a model – maybe even on the high side, but I had no inclination or opportunity to become a model, and today I feel that I would be much too thin at that weight. When I began my last and final diet program a few years ago, I decided I would get my body down to where I looked and felt comfortable and then, if I decided I wanted to go lower, I would work from that point. I am comfortable with my weight at 155 lbs. I look good in my clothes, I don’t have to watch what I eat, I am healthy and active. I am at my “perfect body weight” now.
Do you know what your “perfect body weight” is. Before you begin your new eating program to get rid of those extra pounds, give this some serious thought. Envision a picture of you at “your perfect body weight” and keep this picture in your mind throughout the entire process of reducing your weight. When you reach your goal, you will have become that person you envisioned, and if you keep that picture in your mind always, you will have no problem staying at that level. Just remember, YOUR PERFECT BODY WEIGHT IS THE WEIGHT YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH – NO ONE ELSE’S OPINION MATTERS – JUST YOURS.
Think Thin Thoughts!
